About Banana Bio Leather

From agricultural waste to eco-innovation: Musa, a biodegradable material woven from banana fibers and wool, is taking shape in India. Named after its key ingredient, the "Musa textilis" banana plant, this project repurposes agricultural byproducts, transforming them into a promising sustainable material.
What is Musa?
Musa Banana Fibreskin is a curated Bio-leather, developed by blending banana fibre with sheep wool. The material is transformed from the waste of rural agricultural communities in India.

What finishes can be done on Musa?
As an alternative to leather, al kinds of finishes including dyeing, foiling, embossing etc. can be done. While regular colours and finishes are stocked, new requirements need standard lead time to be developed, stabilized, tested and produced.

Is Musa patent protected?
The patent for Musa has been applied and is under process. Drop us a mail to receive progress updates of the patent process.

What all can I make with Musa?
Musa adheres to the technical specifications required by the garments, leather goods, upholstery, handicraft and other industries. It can be used as a substitute material for and beyond the applications of leather.

How can the material be cleaned?
Musa can be wiped with a soft damp cloth for any surface stains.

What panel sizes are available?
Musa is made in the standard size of 50x70 cm. There are 2 thicknesses available i.e. 2mm and 4mm. The thickness may vary slightly due to the nature of production.

How can I buy Musa?
The Musa Sample Box contains standard swatches and can shipped worldwide. It costs $30 (EXW) and $60 for doorstep delivery. We are not liable for Local Taxes and Custom Duties. An order can be placed for panels from within the swatches or in custom colours.

What is the Lead time for my order?
You can expect your Sample kit in 3 days while a production order can take anywhere between 30-60 days depending upon the assortment.

What coatings are used on Musa?
The dyes and binders used on the material are water based PU resins (REACH & PROP 65 compliant) which are also used in the leather industry for longetivity of the material.
